  6. Dot Matrix Scroller is a video-titling program intended for use
  7. in adding scrolling captions to videos.
  8. I wrote it mainly for my own purposes on my A1200 with Datel
  9. genlock. I found that writing a scrolling caption took too long
  10. on something like Dpaint and Scala etc were beyond my budget.
  11. I came up with this, written on a 2Mb A1200 on Devpac 2.

  13. HOW TO USE IT:
  14. -------------
  15. It was written with user-friendliness in mind and is therefore all
  16. colour coded.
  17. On loading, all the letters highlighted in red show which keys to
  18. press. Here is a quick run-down of what they do:-
  19.  
  20. T     - Use this to Type your message into the scrolltext buffer.
  21.       As you type, the letters will appear in the buffer.
  22.       Some of the punctuation is on the keypad. F1-10/Del/Help
  23.       have further symbols too.
  24.       Press ESCape to end. <- backspace deletes a letter.
  25.       When you press ESCape, a block appears showing where the
  26.       message is to end.
  27.       The buffer is only as long as it looks. If you overflow,
  28.       it loops back to the beginning again. The allocated space
  29.       is ample for most purposes though.

  31. P    - Play. This plays your scroll text in the position stated.
  32.       The screen will go blue, and if you have your genlock on
  33.       you will see your video. Press the right mouse button to
  34.       start the scroll and left to end it. If you have a three
  35.       buttoned mouse, you can turn it off with the middle 
  36.       button without returning to the menu.

  38. F1-6    - Changes the "ink" colour of the text as shown.
  39.       The menu's colour changes, so you can see what you've
  40.       selected.

  42. Up/Down - Changes the speed of the scroll. 4 is about average.
  43.  
  44. B    - Toggles the black Background on or off. 
  45.  
  46. W    - "W"here toggles whether the scroll is at the top or
  47.        bottom of the screen.

  49. Q    - Quit.

  51. G    - Toggles Genlock sync on/off. You should set this on
  52.       when you have your genlock installed. Pressing G without
  53.       a genlock WILL cause a crash. Don't do it.

  55. You should become familiar with the keys very quickly as it is so
  56. simple to use.

  58. ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
  59. -----------------
  60. The program was written on an A1200 with WB3 and has been tested on
  61. an A500 with WB1.2. It has only been tested with the Datel "Pro"
  62. Genlock, so if it doesn't work with your particular genlock or 
  63. setup, don't get at me about it.

  65. Dot Matrix Scroller is free, but I can't afford to go around
  66. writing all day for free, so if you find it useful and use it
  67. a lot please do feel guilty. (Only joking)
  68. Anyone who feels like kissing up and getting in my good books
  69. could do so by sending me some PD or something. Anyone doing this
  70. will get themselves a copy of the source code should they want to
  71. alter the program themselves (Devpac II assembler). It is all 
  72. nicely modular and thoroughly commented too.

  75. Also, anyone out there who knows how to test if a genlock is
  76. present, please let me know. The hardware reference manual isn't
  77. too great around this matter.
